Hollow plastic balls are commonly used in petrochemistry because they float above liquids. They help to limit evaporation, protect from air or sunlight, contain emissions, and retain heat when placed in pools. They reduce heat loss by up to 75%, evaporation by 87%, and atmospheric pollution by 98%. They are available in polypropylene (PP), low-density polyethylene (LDPE), high-density polyethylene (HDPE), or polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF). These balls are made from two welded hemispheres. They have a joint and are not ground. Their thickness varies from 0.70 to 1.20 mm.
