One of the most important commercial varieties on the world market. This is the most widely planted walnut variety because of its late flowering, lateral bearing, and the lightness of its kernel. It developed in 1979 at the University of California at Davis. It is a hybrid of Pedro x UC 5-224. It leaves out 18 days after Payne, flowering in the mid-late period.

A hybrid of Franquette x Lara. Late leafing, lateral fruit bearing variety. Leaves are out 2-3 days earlier than Franquette. Used as a pollinator for Chandler and Fernor.

It is a wild and traditional rootstock for walnut trees. Sensitive to root diseases. Grow med-vigor. Note: rootstock descriptions are for reference only. Our nursery does not offer rootstock for sale.

An advanced selection of paradox hybrid (Juglans hindsii x Juglans regia). The VX211 has high vigor and moderate resistance to phytophthora.

A very good pollinator for Chandler, Howard, Lara, and Fernor varieties. Its origin is Patagonia. Very late bloom, 3 days before Franquette, and the long male flowering period around 23-25 days.

Traditional French variety. An important variety especially because it is a pollinator for Chandler. Trees grow strong and vertical. Leafing date is 26-27 days after Payne.

A French variety developed in the 1980s. Early fruiting, lateral bearing variety. Because the tree structure is moderately strong, its canopy is small. Suitable for hedgerow planting. The color of the kernel varies from white to amber, depending on the region in which its grown.

A variety developed by the University of California. A hybrid of Serr x Tehama. Leaves are out 12 days after Payne. Laterals bear fruit in the proportion of 70-80%; light-colored kernels proportion is 80-90%. Trees are medium strong vertical development. Especially well-suited to hedgerow systems.

A commercial standard Paradox rootstock, (J.hindsii x J.regia). First clonal rootstock for walnut orchards. The Vlach has proven to be vigorous in orchard test plots throughout the state. It has shown good tolerance to many root infections that commonly plague traditional seedlings, including crown gall.

It is a hybrid of Pedro x UC 5-224 like Chandler. Leaves are out mid-season (15 days after Payne). Lateral bearing (80-90% of lateral buds are female). It grows smaller than the other varieties. A good pruning program is required to harvest standard yield and fruit size. Suitable for hedgerow systems.

Starting from the areas that are sea level, it is a fruitful walnut type can be planted in the ares that are 1800 meter high. Because of its genetic features, Fernor walnut would not get affected by spring and autumn frost in high altitudes. Since the female flowers bloom in the beginning of May Fernor walnut tree would not get affeceted from late spring frost. And in autumn, Fernor walnut tree has its time to rest until the beginning of November. And this means the closure of new shoots. This is why not only late shoots but also other parts of the tree would not be affected by early frost in autumn. During winter, frosts up to -25 and -35 degrees do not harm Fernor walnut tree. It is a type of walnut tree that is highly durable to cold weather.

An excellent new French variety, late leafing, precocious flowering, lateral fruiting and blight tolerant. Late ripening, large fruit of excellent quality; light coloured, easily extracted kernels which store well and have excellent flavour. The university of California introduced the Chandler Walnut in 1979 and named it after with Chandler, Professor of Pomology, at U.C. Davis. Today it is the most prominent variety grown in California. The Chandler Walnut is large, smooth and oval shaped with a good shell seal. Chander Walnuts are known around the World and are highly prized by buyers for their extra light and high quality kernels. Harvested mid to late season. Chandler Walnuts provide one of the highest kernel yields of any of the varieties.
